About Urban Farmers PH
Urban Farmers PH
(Urban Farmers Sustainability Concepts Organization Inc.)
is an independent private SEC registered non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization centered on advocating for agriculture and sustainability to city residents with the highs and lows of the industry as well as building respect for our rural farmers.
We nurture spaces inviting all people, no matter their background, to discover that the advocacy is enjoyable, doable, and transferrable.
Mission
Encourage urban dwellers to start growing their own fresh, healthy produce in the city and to nurture a sustainability-centered lifestyle.
Vision
As a showcase and through educational activities, instill the value and appreciation for agriculture among young urban dwellers and foster a personal connection to healthy food.
Story of Urban Farmers PH
Sowing the Seeds
Urban Farmers PH has its beginnings in a 530 sqm idle lot in Makati City. The owner of the lot agreed to allow Farmer Louie to develop it into a productive farm that helped and employed displaced workers during the 2020 lockdowns.
Sprouting in the City
In March 2021, Urban Farmers PH became the steward of an idle lot beside the Flats in Bonifacio Global City, transforming the once empty lot into the BGC Community Farm - now a thriving beacon of the feasibility of urban farming and ecological recovery.
Growing Strong
Farmer-in-Chief Louie Gutierrez learned about creating meaningful Social Enterprises at Copenhagen Business School, equipping him with valuable strategies that significantly enhanced the development of Urban Farmers PH.
Later, the organization achieved a major milestone by winning the grand prize at the ImpaktWISE Awards, which boosted its visibility and attracted a wave of new partners, sponsors, and volunteers, further accelerating its growth and impact.
Expanding Urban Agriculture
Urban Farmers PH expands its operations, introducing Community Plantries, Urban Gardening Projects, and Backyard Bukid in partnership with San Miguel Foundation. These projects distribute seeds, offer workshops, and provide consultancy services to promote urban farming in Metro Manila.
A Flourishing Network and Ongoing Growth
Urban Farmers PH celebrates a major milestone, having established over 50 urban farms, trained more than 100 farmers, and recruited thousands of volunteers. Through continued efforts and community-focused events like the Harvest Festival in November and the Easter Family Farm Workshop in April, the organization remains committed to inspiring communities to embrace urban farming and contribute to a more sustainable future.
